British Association of True Working Kelpies Cerebellar Abiotrophy (CA) Testing Instructions
Thank you for requesting CA tests through BATWK.
Instructions are below for how to collect the DNA swabs. Please follow these instructions carefully. You can just use regular shop bought cotton buds.
WASH HANDS THOROUGHLY BETWEEN TAKING SAMPLES
- Using two clean cotton-buds, collect skin cells from inside your dog’s mouth. Gently rub the cotton tip on their gums and inside cheeks for at least 30 seconds. The swab should look grubby when you are done. Repeat with the other end of the swab
- Repeat with the second swab.
- Dry the samples by leaving the cheek swabs inside the clean paper envelope with the correct dogs details listed on it. Prop the envelope open for at least a 6 hours for the swabs to dry. Don’t use a ziplock bag because this will trap moisture.
You’ll need to write all dogs details on each individual envelope including: Registered name, BATWK or WKC number, microchip number.
Then please post samples to James Beattie at: BATWK C/O James Beattie, Woodside Cottage, Raitloan, Nairn, Highland IV12 5SA
The cost for the test (for both forms of CA) is discounted to £35 (there will be slight variation in our cost to the Australian lab due to exchange rates) BATWK covers the cost of the postage to Australia.
Please make payment via bank transfer to the following, with your name and CA as the reference:
